Coast Guard medevacs injured crewman from Chinese freighter

SAN DIEGO – Coast Guard crews medically evacuated a man who was injured aboard a Chinese-flagged freighter 250 miles southwest of San Diego Wednesday morning.

The crew of the freighter Great Dream contacted the Coast Guard at approximately 9:45 p.m., Tuesday, stating that a 36-year-old male crewmember was injured and needed immediate medical assistance.

A Coast Guard flight surgeon was consulted and concurred that a medevac was recommended.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Sector San Diego was diverted to medevac the man. A C-130 Hercules airplane from Air Station Sacramento, Calif., was also launched to assist with the rescue mission.

Once on scene, the helicopter crew hoisted the man and transported him to Sector San Diego, where he was transferred to emergency medical personnel at approximately 2:20 a.m.
