LOS ANGELES, -- The Coast Guard continues to provide assistance to area firefighters and rescue personnel in their ongoing efforts to battle the blazes in Southern California. So far the Coast Guard has:
-Personnel have been assigned to work in the Joint Field Office in Pasadena, the San Diego County Emergency Operations Center and at the Harris Ranch Fire.
- A Coast Guard C-130 from Air Station Sacramento, Calif. flew two flights into San Diego carrying a total of 3,000 cots and blankets for FEMA's use with aiding evacuees.
- A Coast Guard C-130 from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C. flew a FEMA Federal Incident Response Support Team (FIRST), their vehicles and equipment from Atlanta, Ga., to San Diego.
-A Transportable Communications Center from Point Reyes, Calif., was sent to the area to provide communications assistance.
-A team of firefighter from the Coast Guard Training Center in Petaluma, Calif., was sent to the San Diego Area to assist with efforts there.
-Helicopters from Air Station San Diego flew the Governor of California and the Secretary of Homeland Security on an overflight of the San Diego Fires.
-The Coast Guard Cutter Halibut was standing by as crews onshore fought the Malibu fires near the beach.
-More that 100 Coast Guard personnel and their families have also been evacuated from their homes throughout Southern California.
The Coast Guard will continue to provide assistance as needed to other emergency personnel in the disaster-zone areas.
