Coast Guard celebrates National Maritime Day

SAN DIEGO - Commander of the Eleventh Coast Guard District, Rear Adm. Craig Bone, spoke to the members of the San Diego Propeller Club at the Holiday Inn in downtown San Diego this afternoon in conjunction with National Maritime Day.

Bone's comments focused on praise for the maritime industry's successful partnerships with law enforcement in keeping the port's daily activities flowing smoothly.  The partnerships were recognized and celebrated yesterday as part of National Maritime Day.

In 1933, Congress decreed May 22 as National Maritime Day.  Each year since it has been a day for the United States to observe its proud maritime heritage, honor the men and women who serve and have served as merchant mariners, and recognize the many benefits that result from our American maritime industry.
