U.S. COAST GUARD  ESTABLISHES A SPECIAL LOCAL REGULATION FOR THE SAN DIEGO BAY PARADE OF LIGHTS

SAN DIEGO – Coast Guard Sector San Diego has established  a Special Local Regulation (SLR) for the San Diego Bay Parade of Lights to be held on Saturday Dec. 14 and Saturday Dec. 21 on the gt;Sa n Diego Bay.

The purpose of the SLR is to ensure the safety of the participants, including recreational boaters, and inform them of the restrictions placed on San Diego Bay boating traffic during the event.

The San Diego Bay Parade of Lights SLR will encompass the San Diego Harbor from the northern portion of the main channel at Seaport Village to Shelter Island Yacht Basin.  The SLR will be in effect from 5:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14 and Sunday, Dec. 21.

People and vessels are prohibited from entering into, transiting through, or anchoring within the area of the SLR unless authorized by the Coast Guard Patrol Commander.  Portions of the SLR area may be open periodically to allow for vessel traffic.

While on the water, boaters are encouraged to make contact with the vessels enforcing the SLR.  Event organizers will provide vessels marked with a large "Committee” sign.  All perimeter vessels will have informational flyers indicating the area of the SLR and event status.

The Patrol Commanders can be reached while the SLR is in effect on Marine Band radio channel 16, or by calling 619-278-7262.
