Sector San Diego Prepares to Assist Pacific Northwest in Approaching Storm

SAN DIEGO -- U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Diego prepares to send one of its MH-60J Jayhawk helicopters to Air Station San Francisco,  January 7th.

As a major storm approaches the Pacific Northwest region, aviation crews load supplies and conduct final equipment checks on the helicopter scheduled to leave San Diego.

The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting gale force winds reaching 45 knots and hazardous seas upwards of 16 feet or higher in some areas.

The helicopter crew will fly to San Francisco where they will await further tasking. Depending on the severity of the storm, the crew may transit north to assist in search and rescue efforts to areas severely affected by the storm.

The storm is not expected to impact the Southern California region.
