UPDATE: Coast Guard suspends search for missing mariner
SAN DIEGO – The Coast Guard suspended its active search at 1:13p.m. Thursday for the missing man who fell overboard during a ship-to-ship personnel transfer 70 miles off the coast of San Diego, April 8, 2009.
The search was suspended for Reynaldo Agas, 40, of the Philippines, reported to have gone overboard at 7:47 p.m.
The Coast Guard searched for approximately 16 hours totaling a search area that covered more than 200 square nautical miles.
“The managers and crew of the SKS Sinni express their deep condolences to the family and friends and co-workers of Agas,” said James Lawrence, a representative for the SKS Sinni.
The search began after Coast Guard Sector San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center (JHOC) received a search and rescue notification from the oil tanker BW Thames.
The Coast Guard search assets included an MH-60J Jayhawk helicopter and the Coast Guard Cutter Sea Otter from Sector San Diego.
