Coast Guard continues search through the night

SAN DIEGO The Coast Guard, U.S. Navy, and Mexican Navy are continuing to search the water just off the Coronado Islands, Mexico, following a report of a downed Navy helicopter at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday.

Search and rescue crews have recovered three bodies from last night's downed helicopter, and the search continues for two possible survivors.

There were five crewmembers onboard. The multi-agency search has involved 17 search and rescue assets and covered an area of more than 35 square miles for 20 hours.

Coast Guard and Navy assets will continue to search throughout the night and into Thursday morning.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
