Coast Guard conducts medevac of 51-year-old man

SAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard conducted a medevac from a commercial fishing boat 80 miles south of Point Loma, Calif., this evening.

At 4:30 p.m. Sector San Diego Joint Harbor Operation Center (JHOC) received a phone call from the vessel requesting a medevac of a 51-year-old man suffering from severe abdominal pain.

"This air station trains for rescues like this all the time," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Jacob Stall, a rescue swimmer. "This medevac went exceptionally well due to the professionalism  exhibited by this crew."

The JHOC dispatched an MH-60J helicopter from Sector to conduct the hoist and transport the patient back to the base where emergency medical services were standing by.

EMS transported the man to University of California, San Diego Medical Center.
