Coast Guard medevacs ailing fisherman

SAN DIEGO — A Coast Guard crew from Sector San Diego safely transported a 28-year-old man from a fishing boat 98 miles west of San Diego, after receiving a report that he was experiencing severe abdominal pain at 9:30 a.m., Thursday.

A crewmember aboard the 86-foot fishing vessel Eileen was experiencing the symptoms since 2 a.m., and a distress call was made to the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard flight surgeon determined that the man needed immediate medical attention, and an MH-60J Jayhawk helicopter was launched.

Once on scene, the helicopter crew hoisted the man from the fishing boat and transported him to Coast Guard Sector San Diego, where he was transferred in good condition to emergency medical personnel.
