Coast Guard medevacs ailing fisherman SAN DIEGO — An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Sector San Diego safely transported a 65-year-old man who was experiencing acute abdominal pain from a fishing boat 240 miles south of San Diego Wednesday morning. Sector received a call from the Islander, an 85-foot sport fishing boat, shortly before 3 a.m. requesting a medical evacuation for the passenger. A Coast Guard flight surgeon was consulted and determined that a medevac was recommended. The helicopter launched from Sector to conduct the medevac, and a C-130 Hercules airplane from Air Station Sacramento provided long range coverage. The helicopter arrived on scene at approximately 8 a.m., and hoisted the man from the fishing boat. The man was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, Calif., and transferred to medical personnel.
