Coast Guard searches for survivors of a mid-air collision east of San Clemente Island SAN DIEGO — Coast Guard aircrew members from Sector San Diego conduct search patterns east of San Clemente Island Friday, Oct. 30, 2009 to search for survivors of a mid-air collision that occurred the evening of Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009. The collision occurred between a Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules airplane and a Marine AH-1 Super Cobra helicopter. U.S Coast Guard photos and video by Petty Officer 3rd Class Cory J. Mendenhall.
