Coast Guard rescues kayaker

SAN DIEGO - The Coast Guard rescued a kayaker in distress from the shoreline off of Point Loma, Calif., Sunday night.

At approximately 8 p.m., Sector San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center (JHOC) received a report of a person calling for help.
 
A 33-foot rescue boat from Station San Diego was diverted and a MH-60J Jayhawk helicopter from Sector was launched. In addition, San Diego Lifeguards and the U.S. Navy also responded.

The Jayhawk helicopter crew rescued the kayaker and treated him for severe hypothermia.

The kayaker was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, Calif., where he received medical care.
