Coast Guard medevacs cruise ship passenger

SAN DIEGO An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Sector San Diego safely transported a passenger from a cruise ship approximately 170 miles south of San Diego, Monday afternoon.

The Coast Guard received a call from the crew of the cruise ship, Splendor, at 1:18 p.m., stating that a 56-year-old woman was suffering from acute abdominal pain and requesting a medical evacuation. A Coast Guard flight surgeon was consulted and recommended a medevac be conducted.

The helicopter crew launched from Sector San Diego to conduct the medevac. They arrived on scene at approximately 4:15 p.m., and hoisted the woman and a nurse from the ship.

The woman and nurse were transported to Coast Guard Sector San Diego and transferred to medical personnel in stable condition.
