Coast Guard medevacs Mexican diver

SAN DIEGO – An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Sector San Diego medically evacuated a Mexican diver who was suffering from decompression sickness on Guadalupe Island, Mexico Friday morning.

The Mexican Navy requested a medevac for the 27-year-old man, after it was determined that Mexican Navy assets would not be able to transport the patient to hyperbaric decompression facilities fast enough.

The helicopter arrived on scene at approximately 7 a.m.

The patient was flown to San Diego, where he was transferred to emergency medical personnel for transport to the hospital.

An HC-130 Hercules plane from Air Station Sacramento was also launched to provide long range coverage during the medevac.
