SAN DIEGO – An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Sector San Diego rescued a lost kayaker near Palo Verde Lake, Calif., Saturday morning.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department notified the Coast Guard that the 19-year-old man was approximately six hours overdue and requested assistance with the search.

The helicopter launched and located the man approximately one mile east of Palo Verde Lake at 2 a.m.

The man was disoriented and lost in a location not readily accessible by foot, and was hoisted to the helicopter.

The helicopter transported the kayaker to Gillespie Field Airport near El Cajon, Calif.,  and was transferred to emergency medical personnel to assess his condition.
