Coast Guard medevacs woman, baby

SAN DIEGO – The Coast Guard medically evacuated a woman and her new-born baby from a cruise ship just south of San Diego Thursday afternoon.

The Joint Harbor Operations Center (JHOC) received a call from the cruise ship Carnival Paradise at 10:40 a.m., requesting a medical evacuation of the woman and her baby for any medical attention the two may need.

Coast Guard Sector San Diego launched a 41-foot motor life boat with a Coast Guard doctor aboard, and met the cruise ship just south of the entrance to San Diego Harbor at about 1:00 p.m., to take a 30-year-old woman, her baby, and her mother off of the ship.  The trio was then transported to Shelter Island where they were transported by paramedics to Kaiser Zion Hospital.
