COAST GUARD MEDEVACS 76-YEAR-OLD FEMALE
WITH BROKEN HIP

BAJA CALIFORNIA, MX - U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Diego medically evacuated a woman, this morning, from her vacation home in Baja California after she fell and suffered a broken hip.

The patient was successfully transferred to an awaiting ambulance, at Sector San Diego, and transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital, in San Diego, in stable condition.

Sector San Diego received an 8:10 p.m. call, Sunday evening, from the Mexican government requesting the medical evacuation of an American citizen from a remote location in Gonzaga Bay, 100 miles south of San Felipe, Mexico.

A Sector San Diego HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter responded and was on-scene at 1:48 a.m.  The patient was home, in bed when the Coast Guard crew arrived.  The patient transfer, from her bed to a stokes liter, was made easier by lifting the patient with a bed sheet, according to Lt. Cmdr. Charles Bell, the Coast Guard aircraft commander.

The Coast Guard Jayhawk returned to Sector San Diego, with the patient, at 4:15 a.m.

For more information, contact Lt. Shana Morris, Coast Guard Sector San Diego, at 619-683-6386; or Petty Officer Robert K. Lanier, D11 Public Affairs, at 619-683-6552.
