SAN DIEGO – Coast Guard crews teamed up with San Diego Harbor Police to ensure 26 people, who were aboard a charter fishing vessel that ran aground and was flooding, returned safely to San Diego Friday morning.

Twenty-two passengers were taken aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Edisto, with the aid of Harbor Police, and transported to H and M Landing in San Diego at approximately 7:30 a.m.

Four of the charter crew members, as well as a rescue and assistance team from the Edisto, remained aboard the damaged vessel for the transit to a salvage facility in Imperial Beach, Calif.

Coast Guard Sector San Diego received the mayday call just before 1:30 a.m., and launched a helicopter and diverted a Coast Guard Cutter to respond.
