COAST GUARD MEDICALLY TRANSPORTS PREMATURE BABY FROM ENSANADA, MEXICO TO SAN DIEGO SAN DIEGO - A U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Diego helicopter medically transported a pre-mature baby, today, from Ensanada, Mexico to San Diego by request of San Diego Children's Hospital. The female infant, who was born at 2 a.m., today, was flown to Sector San Diego, where an awaiting ambulance transported her to San Diego Children's Hospital. U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Diego received a call from Children's Hospital requesting the medical transport of a pre-mature baby, born to a U.S. citizen, in Ensanada. Sector San Diego launched an HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, at approximately 10 a.m., with a nurse from Children's Hospital and a transportable isolette on board. The Coast Guard Jayhawk landed in a field near Velmar Hospital, in Ensanada, at approximately 10:30 a.m., to receive the young patient. The Jayhawk crew and patient returned to Sector San Diego at approximately 11:50 a.m., where an awaiting ambulance transferred the young patient to Children's Hospital. The mother, who is in good condition, remained at Velmar Hospital and is scheduled to be transported to San Diego at a later time.
