26-SEP 05 HH-65 AND CREW RESCUE 70 YR OLD MALE INVOLVED IN A DIVING ACCIDENT NEAR THE CORONADO'S SAN DIEGO - While diving off the coast of San Diego a 70 year old male was involved in a diving accident. The 70 year old male was diving off of the Ocean Express a local diving vessel. Ten minutes into his second dive he was found unconscious and unresponsive. Crew from the motor vessel Ocean Express pulled him aboard and immediately called the Coast Guard via CH 16. At approximately 2:30 a HH-65 and crew down from San Francisco and Los Angeles supporting San Diego launched on the call. (San Diego crews are conducting search and rescue efforts in the south due to the damage caused by Rita.) The HH-65 crew arrived at the Ocean Express north of the Coronado's to find the male responsive and alert. They conducted a hoist to the stern of the vessel and recovered the male. The CG crew transported the male to UCSD where he will be evaluated and possible put into a decompression chamber. For further information and video contact LT Hipes at 619-666-7238.
