COAST GUARD TO COMMISSION NEW 87-FOOT PATROL BOAT SAN DIEGO - The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Sea Otter will officially enter the Coast Guard fleet during a commissioning ceremony to be held, Thursday, at Coast Guard Pier, Ballast Point, located on Naval Station Point Loma, at 2 p.m. Master Chief Boatswain’s Mate Thomas A. Botzenhart, a native of Warren, Ohio, will be the first officer-in-charge of the 87-foot Coastal Patrol Boat. California Rep. Duncan Hunter; Rear Adm. Kevin J. Eldridge, Eleventh Coast Guard District Commander; Capt. Charles V. Strangfeld, Sector San Diego Commander; and BMCM Botzenhart, Prospective Officer-in-Charge, USCGC Sea Otter; are scheduled to speak. Mrs. Lynne Hunter will be the Sea Otter’s sponsor. The Sea Otter is the 62nd marine protector class ship built for the Coast Guard by Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Lockport, La. Once placed in service, Sea Otter will operate under the command of Coast Guard Sector San Diego. Their missions will include, but are not limited to, search-and-rescue and maritime law enforcement within Sector’s area of responsibility.
